Fort Lewis College Accreditation

Fort Lewis College is accredited by
The Higher Learning Commission of
North Central Association of Colleges
and Schools
.

Acceditation Reaffirmation
Every ten years, Fort Lewis College is reviewed by the Higher learning Commission of the North Cnetral Association of Colleges and Schools for reaffirmation of its acceditation. This process includes a self-study and a peer evaluation. During the spring of 2006, Fort Lewis recieved its reaffirmation from the Higher Learning Commission.

Accreditation Self-Study
The self-study process involved gathering information and evidence relevant to the Higher Learning Commission's criteria from across campus, in addition to surveying campus and community constituencies about important issues and holding meetings to discuss these issues. The self-study is intended to provide an in depth picture of how well the institution meets the criteria for excellence in higher education.

Special Accreditations and Recognitions
In addition, to the regional accreidtation, several departments have received acceditation and recognition from professional societies.

The School of Business Administration is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Only a small handful of accredited colleges focus purely on undergraduate students. And of those, only four worldwide are in a public liberal arts college.

The Chemistry Department offers a bachelor of science degree that is accredited by the American Chemical Society. The National Science Foundation study selected the Chemistry Department as one of 24 Academic Excellence programs nationwide and the Colorado Commission on Higher Education has named the Chemistry Department a Program of Excellence.

The Music Department is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.

The Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET (Accreditation Board For Engineering and Technology) approved our Engineering Physics program within the Department of Physics for engineering accreditation. This is the only accredited engineering program in western Colorado and the Four Corners region.

Fort Lewis College also is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies and the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges.
