Foundation Scholarships, Colorado Residents and/or Residents of Other States

Foundation scholarships are available for students who are seeking a degree for the first time.
If you already have a Bachelor's Degree, you do not qualify to apply.

The Foundation scholarship application can be obtained from the Foundation Office, 2201 Berndt Hall, 1000 Rim Drive, Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO 81301, or you can download an application.  You may not submit this online.

Application deadline is February 15th for all Foundation scholarships

1.  To apply, you must be officially accepted to Fort Lewis College with a plan to be a full-time
      degree-seeking student.
2.  Please submit only one application
3.  Include only one copy (unofficial preferred) of college transcripts
4.  New freshman must submit one copy of high school transcripts.
5.  Current students can print transcripts from webopus. 
6.  Include only one essay with your packet.  Your essay should include the following:

  • Information about your background
  • Your short & long term goals, including career goals
  • List of extracurricular activities, accomplishments, interests and/or community service
  • Honors and/or awards
  • Examples of leadership and/or personal integrity
  • Why you chose your field of study
  • Why you need scholarships and your reason for applying for a scholarship
  • How a scholarship will help you reach your goals and educational objectives
  • The essay requirements of each scholarship may differ-please combine everything into one general essay

7.  You must file a FAFSA through Financial Aid in order to qualify for a Foundation
      scholarship.  Do not send copies of FAFSA documents to the Foundation.
8.  Any specific essay requirements can be comined into your general essay.
9.  Scholarship renewals require reapplication.

Incomplete applications and incomplete packets will not be considered.  Unless otherwise stated, all applications are reviewed by the Foundation Office and the Foundation Scholarship Committee.

MARYMAUREEN KATHRYN ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP (for instate & out of state)

  • 2.0 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered
  • Minimum of one faculty/staff recommendation supporting high moral character required
  • Up to $500 

BP AMERICA ENERGY SCHOLARSHIP (for instate & Recipricol students only)

  • 3.0 GPA or above.
  • Any class level considered 
  • Must have an interest in the energy industry.  Fields may include: engineering, physics, geology, chemistry, anthropology, political science, business, finance and marketing.
  • Essay must include your interest as required above.
  • Up to $1250

MICHAEL BODO TRUST

  • 2.0 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered
  • No financial need restrictions
  • Up to $1,000

PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATES SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered
  • No financial need restrictions
  • Up to $1,000

C & G TREAT SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.8 GPA or above (must improve to qualify for renewal)
  • Any class level considered
  • Must have overcome or currently be overcoming a major adversity
  • Must demonstrate financial need and adversity in essay
  • Up to $2,000

COMMUNITY FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered
  • Non-traditional, single parent only may apply (primarily responsible for the rearing of a child)
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay
  • Up to $5000

ROBERT A. AND MITOSHI DALLA SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above, must be maintained
  • Any class level considered
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay
  • Up to $200

FORT LEWIS COLLEGE CYCLING SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 GPA or above, must be maintained
  • Good standing in men's or women's cycling team
  • Up to $500 to $1,000

DURANGO 100 CLUB SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.7 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered
  • Must have one parent employed by City of Durango Police or Fire Department, CO State Patrol, or La Plata County Sheriff's Office or be the child of a parent killed in the line of duty
  • Up to $1,000

EL CENTRO DE MUCHOS COLORES BOOK SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered (preference given to Hispanic or multi-cultural applicants
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay
  • Must attend one skill-building workshop per semester to maintain & renew scholarship
  • Personal resume and/or paragraph in essay to include information about  your personal cultural and ethnic identity and explanation of why you would bring a diverse set of opinions to Fort Lewis College to help enrich our campus and fulfill the College’s commitment to enroll and embrace allcultures and allpeoplerequired
  • Up to $250 to $500, renewable

LEROY GOODWIN SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 cumulative FLC GPA minimum
  • Interest in politics, public opinion, government, law or political theory
  • Award varies.  Not to exceed in-state tuition.

FERN AND WALTER HOLMQUIST SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 cumulative GPA
  • Preference to Native American students
  • Preference to pre-med, teacher licensing, law enforcement, computer science and all sciences
  • Up to $500

INDEPENDENT NEWSPAPER SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above, must be maintained
  • Any class level considered
  • Must take 12 to 15 credit hours
  • For English majors interested in Journalism
  • Must remain on staff of newspaper
  • Award renewable but must reapply through the Foundation
  • Up to $1000

HELEN KROEGER-FARIS SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 GPA for freshman, 2.5 for sophomores, 2.75 for juniors and 3.0 for seniors
  • Graduate of any high school in drainage area of San Juan or Dolores river basins in Colorado or New Mexico
  • Recipient must complete 15 credit hours per term
  • Up to but not to exceed In-state tuition

DEBRA PARMENTER SCHOLARSHIP 

  • 2.8 GPA or above, must be maintained
  • Any class level considered
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay
  • Up to $3,000

MARY E. RESLER SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA or better
  • Any class level considered 
  • Must be a tribal member of the Navajo Nation
  • Up to $500

WAYNE AND DARLENE SCHILD BOOK SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 GPA or better
  • Any class level considered
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay

SCOTT C. WHITESIDE SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 minimum GPA (must increase GPA to be eligible for renewal)

  • Preference to psychology major interested in law enforcement or field in criminal justice system

DEAN AND BETTY WOLCOTT SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 GPA or above
  • Any class level considered
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay

FIRST TIME FRESHMAN

JOHN F. AND MILDRED S. REED SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.6 GPA or above
  • Incoming freshmen only
  • Biology major, must carry 12 credit hours per term
  • Up to $500, can continue up to 8 semesters

DEVO HOMETOWN HEROES' SCHOLARSHIP

  • Incoming freshmen only
  • Resident of Four Corners region for 2 or more years 
  • Must carry 12 credit hours per term
  • Must have been part of Devo Program at some point in cycling career
  • Recipient will be selected by cycling committee based on:
  • a.  Results at the junior level
  • b.  Good Citizenship and good ambassador for the sport
  • c.  Financial need
  • d.  Commitment to the Fort Lewis Cycling Team
  • Up to $1000 per academic year  -  award renewable up to 4 years with proof of transcripts and continued qualifications
FRESHMAN OR SOPHOMORE

BART BETOW MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Full time freshman or sophomore 
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay
  • Paragraph in essay describing feelings on social consciousness and world peace

SOPHOMORE AND ABOVE

CECIL P. GARDIPE SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Sophomore or higher
  • Preference to Colorado or Four Corners regional students
  • Involved in formal or extra-curricular athletics

CONNIE HILB-LUNDQUIST SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.75 GPA or above
  • Completed 30 credit hours at FLC
  • Any academic discipline, preference given to participant in performing arts
  • List of performing arts accomplishments
  • Up to but not to exceed In-state tuition

ROBERT LUNDQUIST SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.75 GPA or above (GPA maintained throughout the year)
  • Sophomore or higher with learning disability
  • Verification of disability from FLC Disability Services required
  • Up to but not to exceed In-state tuition

LESLIE POTTER SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 GPA or better
  • Sophomore or higher  
  • Must demonstrate financial need in essay
  • Up to $1000

STARMAN SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.8 GPA or above, (GPA maintained throughout the year)
  • Sophomore or higher with declared major in any of the following: (Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Ecology, Engineering, Geology or Physics)
  • Preference for students of financial need and working part-time
  • Up to $500

  • 3.1 GPA or above
  • Must be a junior, 60 credit hours completed  
  • Scholarship renewable if GPA is maintained
  • Business or Physical Sciences major

  • 2.0 GPA or above
  • Junior or senior may apply
  • Evidence of participation in one or more school sponsored activities and/or organization required
