The Foundation scholarship application can be obtained from the Foundation Office, 2201 Berndt Hall, 1000 Rim Drive, Fort Lewis College, Durango, CO 81301, unless otherwise stated, or you can download an application. You may not submit this online.
1. Please submit only one application
2. Include only one copy (unofficial preferred) of college transcripts
3. New freshman must submit one copy of high school transcripts
4. Current students can print transcripts from webopus. (Admission Office cannot forward)
5. Include only one essay in your packet. Your essay should include the following:
- Information about your background
- Your short & long term goals, including career goals
- List of your extracurricular and/or volunteer, activities, accomplishments, interests and/or community service with schools and/or organizations
- Honors and/or awards
- Examples of leadership and/or personal integrity
- Why you chose your field of study
- Why you need scholarships and your reason for applying for a scholarship
- How a scholarship will help you reach your goals and educational objectives
- The Essay requirements of each scholarship may differ-please combine everything into one general essay
6. Proof of filing for FAFSA is not required/just state in your essay you filed for FAFSA
7. Some scholarships request specific essay information-this will be including under the
scholarship description
8. To apply, you must be officially accepted to Fort Lewis College with a plan to be a full-
time degree-seeking student
9. Depending upon availability of funds, it is possible to receive more than one award
Scholarship renewals require reapplication. Unless otherwise stated, all applications are reviewed by the Foundation Office and the Foundation Scholarship Committee. Application deadline is February 15th for all Foundation Scholarships. Incomplete applications and incomplete packets will not be considered. See list of scholarships below:
FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR AND/OR SENIOR
ATMOS ENERGY/SCHLESSMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
- Colorado resident with financial need
- Any major is accepted. No limited GPA
- Essay must include accomplishments, goals, interests and reason for need
- Award is renewable but student must reapply each year
- $2500
BLACKSTONE TRUST/WOMENS RESOURCE CENTER NON-TRAD SCHOLARSHIP
- LaPlata County resident for one year prior to application
- Preference given to women
- Student must be 26 years of age or older
- GPA of 3.0 or better
- Student must complete 30 credits per year
- Provide transcripts and essay describing financial need, leadership potential and ability to give back to community after graduation.

- 3.0 cumulative high school or college GPA
- Resident of (in order of preference) Durango, La Plata County, Southwest CO, CO
- Enrolled in major leading to any medical field

SUZANNE JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- 3.0 FLC cumulative GPA (applicants with less than 12 credit hours will provide high school GPA)
- CO resident
- Major in business or related field
- Must complete 15 credit hours for each of the two terms the scholarship is held
- Up to $200
DIAN SANTISTEVAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- Graduate of Ignacio High School
- Must be ethnic minority
- Preference to students majoring in Business, specifically Accounting
- Up to $100 per year for books
CECILIA J. & JOSEPHINE M. SPONSEL SCHOLARSHIP
- 3.2 cumulative GPA, must be maintained
- La Plata or Montezuma County resident
- Renewable for up to four years
- Up to $5,000
VIETNAM ERA VETERAN'S SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.50 FLC cumulative GPA, no high school GPA requirement for incoming freshman
- Resident of La Plata County
- Child of Vietnam Era Veteran defined as serving between January 1963 and December 1975
- Must complete 15 credit hours per term
- Vietnam Era Veteran application found on Foundation website, unofficial transcript(s) and photocopy of sponsoring veteran's DD214 required
- Up to $500 per year for books
FIRST TIME FRESHMAN
ANDERSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
- For a high school graduate who will be a first generation college student
- Must be a resident of La Plata County
- Must write an essay describing financial need and why you should be considered

CRAIG-DYER SCHOLARSHIP
- Graduate of high schools in La Plata County and/or Archuleta County
- CO resident, out of school less than 3 years
- Not eligible for need-based financial aid, FAFSA required
- Priority to students planning to major in agriculture, education, or engineering; however any major is acceptable
- Up to $2,000
CALLISTO AND CATHERINE LUCHINI SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.50 cumulative high school GPA
- Freshman formally admitted to FLC
- Current year graduate of Bayfield, Durango, Ignacio, or Pagosa Springs high schools
- Preference to students from ranching background
- Up to $500 per year for books
INA WELSH COOK MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- 3.5 GPA, maintain at least a 3.0 during four years and carry at least 15 credit hours per term
- Must be a freshman, in-state resident
- Must have strong financial need and complete a FAFSA
- Priority given to students with a learning disability, majoring in teaching or teaching the disabled
- Must declare major by beginning of junior year
- Must be from single parent family and have multiple siblings; or be a single parent student with more than one child
- Recipient need not reapply after freshman year, but must provide update of personal information and unofficial transcripts yearly
- Verification of disability required
- Essay must have paragraph(s) describing parent support of you or lack thereof, how much financial aid you requested and justification, why a college degree is important to you and how you will finance your college education if no financial aid is received
- Four year scholarship to cover tuition, fees, books, room and board (may cover one extra term of continuous academia study excluding summer)amount varies
RALPH MILO MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.5 GPA or higher
- Increase and maintain GPA to a 3.0 during the sophomore, junior and senior years and carry at least 15 credit hours per term
- Resident of La Plata, Archuleta, or San Juan Counties, CO
- Must have strong financial need and complete a FAFSA
- Must be a first generation college student-neither parent having ever attended college
- Must declare a major by junior year, preference given to agriculture or environmental majors.
- Must have a ranching or farming background
- Need no less than three recommendations explaining recipient’s interest in college and qualities to succeed
- Recipient need not reapply after freshman year, but must provide update of personal information and academic transcripts yearly
- Essay to include information describing parents support of you or lack thereof, how much financial aid requested and justification, why a college degree is important to you and how you will finance your college education if no financial aid is received

- 2.75 high school cumulative GPA
- Graduating high school student officially accepted to FLC as a degree-seeking student prior to application
- One award to student from each of Durango, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, Cortez and Ignacio high schools
- Must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credit hours per term
- Up to $250
WOMENS RESOURCE CENTER FIRST GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP
- Preference to female high school graduate accepted to Fort Lewis College as a first generation college student
- Must be resident of La Plata County with a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Must have financial need
- Essay required describing why you should be considered for this scholarship
- Award amount up to $1125.00
- Available for four years if student updates application and grades each year
FRESHMAN PREFERENCE (OTHERS MAY APPLY)
RICHARD AND MARJORIE ANESI SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.50 or better high school GPA
- Durango High School graduate
- Sophomore; junior or senior students may apply if a scholarship is discontinued and re-awarded to another student
- Preference to first generation student, defined as neither parent having obtained a bachelor's degree
- Can continue up to 8 semesters, but student must declare major by beginning of their junior year
- Amount varies but not to exceed tuition
KIWANIS CLUB OF THE NARROW GAUGE SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.50 cumulative GPA whether high school or college applicant
- La Plata County resident who graduated or intends to graduate from Durango, Ignacio or Bayfield high school
- Preference to incoming FLC freshman
- Must maintain 2.50 FLC cumulative GPA, complete minimum 15 credit hours per term
- One year award but recipient may re-apply

CINDY WATSON SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.0 GPA or higher
- Business major
- Award given to one freshman and one returning student
- Western Colorado high school graduate
- Up to $300

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW) SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.5 cumulative GPA
- Must have completed 30 credit hours minimum
- La Plata, San Juan, Archuleta, Montezuma, or San Miguel counties resident
- Female non-traditional student at least 25 years of age
- Must apply for FAFSA through Financial Aid
- Up to $1,000 toward tuition or fees
JESSE BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- Priority to students who have completed a minimum of 32 credit hours at FLC
- Colorado resident
- For members, employees and their immediate families, of: Colorado Timber Industry Association, Koppers Industries or Louisiana Pacific Corporation

SHARY DOAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
- 2.5 GPA or higher
- Sophomore, junior or senior
- Must demonstrate financial need
- Non-traditional student preferred, include paragraph in essay about why you are returning to college

- Graduate of high school in Dolores, Montezuma, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, or that portion or Hinsdale or Mineral counties within the drainage of the San Juan River and its tributaries
- Must show financial need
- Must display responsible citizenship and include how in your essay

- 2.0 cumulative FLC GPA, to be maintained throughout the year for which the award is granted
