Qualified Native American students will be admitted to Fort Lewis College tuition free. They are still responsible for purchasing books, paying college fees, room and board expenses, etc.
For purposes of the tuition waiver, Native American is defined as follows:
"The term Native American shall include all persons of Native American descent who are members of any recognized Native American tribe now under federal jurisdiction, and all persons who are descendants of such members who were, on June 1, 1934, residing within the present boundaries of any Native American reservation, and shall further include all persons of one-half or more Native American blood. Eskimos and other aboriginal people of Alaska shall be considered Native Americans."
The Fort Lewis College Office of Admission reviews applications from Native Americans to determine if they qualify for the tuition waiver. If a Native American qualifies according to tribal certification and Fort Lewis College admission standards, the student's tuition will be waived. After the Office of Admission has received all necessary documents it officially notifies students if they qualify for the Native American Tuition Waiver. Any reference to the tuition waiver from any other office (including Financial Aid) is unofficial.
FLC Certificate of Tribal Membership for Native Americans
Native American students are encouraged to contact their Tribal Agency to find out how to apply for additional financial assistance. Native American students may obtain a Financial Need Analysis (FNA) from their Tribal Agency. The Office of Financial Aid can complete the FNA if the student has submitted their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA takes time to process, so please fill it out well in advance of your request (see our recommended early submission dates). Most tribal agencies require FAFSA information on the FNA, therefore we cannot fill out the FNA until the student has a complete financial aid file. However, if the agency permits, we can provide budget forecasts to tribal agencies for students who do not have a complete financial aid file - on an exception basis.
