Scholarships for Colorado Residents

Foundation scholarships are available for students who enroll and complete a minimum of 15 credits per semester and are seeking a degree for the first time. If you already have a Bachelor's Degree, you do not qualify to apply. Click here to see the application process.

FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORE, JUNIOR AND/OR SENIOR

ATMOS ENERGY/SCHLESSMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

  • No GPA limit
  • Any class level with any major considered
  • Award renewable upon reapplicaton
  • $2500

BLACKSTONE TRUST/WOMENS RESOURCE CENTER NON-TRAD SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • LaPlata County resident for one year prior to application
  • Preference given to women
  • Student must be 26 years of age or older
  • Student must complete 30 credits per year
  • Essay to include leadership potential and ability to give back to community after graduation.
  • $1000

CARLENO MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Resident of (in order of preference) Durango, La Plata County, Southwest CO, CO  
  • Enrolled in major leading to any medical field
  • Up to $500

SUZANNE JONES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Business major or related field
  • Must complete 15 credit hours each term
  • Up to $200

CECILIA J. & JOSEPHINE M. SPONSEL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.2 GPA or above 
  • Preference to a La Plata or Montezuma County resident 
  • Second preference to any Colorado resident
  • Renewable for up to four years
  • Up to $5,000

VIETNAM ERA VETERAN'S SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.50 GPA or above
  • Resident of La Plata County
  • Child of Vietnam Era Veteran defined as serving between January 1963 and December 1975
  • Must complete 15 credit hours per term 
  • Must provide copy of sponsoring veteran's DD214 form
  • Up to $500 per year

FIRST TIME FRESHMAN

ANDERSON FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

  • No GPA requirement
  • For a high school graduate who will be a first generation college student
  • Must be a resident of La Plata County
  • $1250

CRAIG-DYER SCHOLARSHIP

  • No GPA requirement
  • Graduate of high schools in La Plata County and/or Archuleta County
  • Priority to students planning to major in agriculture, education, or engineering; however any major is acceptable
  • Up to $2,000

CALLISTO AND CATHERINE LUCHINI SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.50 GPA or above
  • Current year graduate of Bayfield, Durango, Ignacio, or Pagosa Springs high schools
  • Preference to students from ranching background
  • Minimum $500 - Maximum $1000

INA WELSH COOK MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Must carry at least 15 credit hours per term
  • Must have strong financial need
  • Priority given to students with a learning disability or majoring in teaching or teaching the disabled
  • Must declare major by beginning of junior year
  • Must be from single parent family and have multiple siblings; or be a single parent student with more than one child
  • Verification of disability required
  • Essay must have paragraph(s) describing parent support of you or lack thereof, how much financial aid you requested and justification, why a college degree is important to you and how you will finance your college education if no financial aid is received
  • $15,000

RALPH MILO MARTIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 GPA or above
  • Increase and maintain GPA to a 3.0 during the sophomore, junior and senior years and carry at least 15 credit hours per term
  • Resident of La Plata, Archuleta, or San Juan Counties, CO
  • Must have strong financial need
  • Must be a first generation college student-neither parent having ever attended college
  • Must declare a major by junior year, with preference to agriculture or environmental majors.  
  • Must have a ranching or farming background
  • Need no less than three recommendations explaining recipient’s interest in college and qualities to succeed
  • Essay to include information describing parents support of you or lack thereof, how much financial aid requested and justification, why a college degree is important to you and how you will finance your college education if no financial aid is received
  • $15,000

VECTRA BANK SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.75 GPA or above
  • One award to student from each of Durango, Bayfield, Pagosa Springs, Cortez and Ignacio high schools
  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 15 credit hours per term
  • Up to $250

WOMENS RESOURCE CENTER FIRST GENERATION SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Preference to female high school graduate/first generation college student
  • Must be resident of La Plata County
  • Must have financial need
  • Essay to include why you should be considered for this scholarship
  • Up to  $1125.00
  • Available for four years

FRESHMAN PREFERENCE (OTHERS MAY APPLY)

RICHARD AND MARJORIE ANESI SCHOLARSHIP   

  • 2.50 GPA or above
  • Durango High School graduate
  • Sophomore; junior or senior students may apply if the scholarship is discontinued for the freshman
  • Preference to first generation student, defined as neither parent having obtained a bachelor's degree
  • Can continue up to 8 semesters, but student must declare major by beginning of their junior year
  • Amount varies but not to exceed instate tuition

KIWANIS CLUB OF THE NARROW GAUGE SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.50 GPA or above 
  • La Plata County resident who graduated or intends to graduate from Durango, Ignacio or Bayfield high school
  • Preference to incoming FLC freshman
  • Must complete minimum 15 credit hours per term
  • Award renewable upon reapplication
  • Up to $500 

CINDY WATSON SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 GPA or above
  • Business major
  • Award given to one freshman and one returning student
  • Western Colorado high school graduate
  • Up to $300

SOPHOMORE AND ABOVE

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN (AAUW) SCHOLARSHIP       

  • Female non-traditional student at least 25 years of age
  • 3.0 GPA or above 
  • Must have completed 30 credit hours minimum
  • Resident of any area in Southwest Colorado
  • Up to $1,000

JANET WATSON AAUW SCHOLARSHIP 

  • Female non-traditional student at least 25 years of age
  • 3.0 GPA or above
  • Must have completed 30 credit hours minimum
  • Resident of any area in Southwest Colorado
  • Up to $1000 

JESSE BROWN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • No GPA requirement
  • Priority to students who have completed a minimum of 30 credit hours at FLC
  • Preference to members, employees and their immediate families, of:  Colorado Timber Industry Association, Koppers Industries or Louisiana Pacific Corporation
  • Up to $500

SHARY DOAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.5 GPA or higher
  • Sophomore, junior or senior
  • Non-traditional student preferred. Include paragraph in essay about why you are returning to college
  • Up to $350

GARRETT FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

  • No GPA requirement
  • Transfer student from Pueblo Community College, Southwest Branch  
  • Up to $500

DON AND HELEN JAMES FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

  • 3.0 GPA or above 
  • Completed minimum 30 credit hours
  • Up to $2,000

JOSEPH MCKINLEY-KIWANIS SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.50 GPA or above
  • Sophomore, junior or senior
  • Graduate of high school in Dolores, Montezuma, San Juan, La Plata, Archuleta, or that portion of Hinsdale or Mineral counties within the drainage of the San Juan River and its tributaries
  • Must display responsible citizenship and include how in your essay
  • Up to $1,200

MARY ELLEN MOREHART MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

  • 2.0 GPA or above to be maintained or increased throughout the year 
  • Completed minimum 30 credit hours
  • Resident of La Plata or Archuleta counties
  • Up to $1,000
