Welcome to the 2007 Skyhawk Student Athletic Training Camp!
The Fort Lewis College Athletic Training Program is excited to offer our tenth Student Athletic Training Camp for high school students. This camp will run from Friday, July 27, 2007 through Sunday, July 29, 2007 on the Fort Lewis College campus.
The profession of athletic training is growing by leaps and bounds. This is a great opportunity to provide students with an overview of athletic training principles and introduce the Fort Lewis Athletic Training Education Program, which was accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in 2002.
The registration workshop fee is $125. On campus housing for two nights will be $25 per person for a double occupancy room. The five meal plan will be offered at a cost of $36.
The Staff The Skyhawk camp staff is headed by Wayne Barger, head athletic trainer at Fort Lewis. Wayne is currently in his 11th year at Fort Lewis. He came to Fort Lewis from the University of New Mexico, where he had been an assistant head athletic trainer and curriculum instructor for 10 years. He also has extensive experience in athletic training at international and national sporting events.
A 2001 graduate of the Fort Lewis College Athletic Training Program, Andy Vanous returned to his alma mater in January 2004. After graduating, Vanous went on to receive his Master of Science degree at San Jose State University. During that time, he also worked at Stanford University where he worked with many athletic programs. Following his two-year education in graduate school, Vanous became an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of California - Santa Barbara where he worked with the Gauchos men’s and women’s cross country and softball teams.
The newest addition to the Fort Lewis Athletic Training staff, Megan Pales will add depth to an already successful program. She comes most recently from the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA where she completed a one-year athletic training fellowship. Prior to that, Megan received her Master's degree in biomechanics at Auburn University in 2005 where she worked with the NCAA National Champion men's and women's swimming and diving teams.
Dr. Carrie Meyer is the Athletic Training Education Program Director and assistant professor of Exercise Science at Fort Lewis College. Carrie brings a variety of experience from the NCAA Division I and II along with extensive out-patient rehabilitation experiences. Carrie has finished her second year at Fort Lewis. Prior to coming here, Carrie worked as the Clinical Coordinator for the Athletic Training program at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix.
