Why Attend Skyhawk Volleyball Camps?

 Preparation - High school student athletes prepare for a successful college career while younger players get their first exciting volleyball experience.

 Accommodation - Stay on-campus in the residence halls of one of the most breathtaking settings in the country.

 Facilities - All camps and clinics will be held in the recently rennovated Whalen Gymnasium. The air-conditioned facilty features three volleyball courts on state-of-the-art flooring.

 Durango - One of the top 10 small tourist towns in the country - When not playing volleyball, campers can enjoy swimming, basketball, tennis, hiking, mountain biking, relaxing in natural hot springs, or the multitude of water and mountain activities that only Southwest Colorado can offer.

 Funds - All funds generated enable student athletes from across the region to study and play at Fort Lewis. Your tuition stays within a community providing quality education.

SKYHAWK VOLLEYBALL CAMPS

Welcome all enthusiastic volleyball players! The Fort Lewis College volleyball program is excited to be hosting its annual summer camps on the beautiful Fort Lewis campus. The five individual clinics are open to all interested girls and boys.


STAFF INFORMATION

Shelly Aaland

Fort Lewis College head volleyball coach Shelly Aaland completed her third year as head coach in 2006. Aaland guided the Skyhawks to their first NCAA Division II National Tournament in the programs' history. The Skyhawks recorded a 20-10 overall record and a 12-7 mark in conference play. The Skyhawks made their second consecutive appearance to the RMAC Tournament. A graduate of Fort Lewis College, Aaland was a four-year letterwinner for the Skyhawks from 1995-98. She started as a defensive specialist as a junior and was the team's starting setter as a senior, earning Phillips 66 Academic Conference accolades both seasons. In 1998, Aaland was chosen by her teammates as Fort Lewis College's Most Valuable Player.


CHECK-IN INFORMATION

Here is the information you will need when you arrive for Camp A:

 

You will need to check in at Whalen Gymnasium between 8:00 – 8:30am on July 24th. You will be dismissed from the gym at 12:30 pm.

 

Here is the information you will need when you arrive for Camp B:

 

You will need to check in at Whalen Gymnasium between 1:15 – 1:30pm on July 24th. You will be dismissed from the gym at 5:30 pm.

 

Here is the information you will need when you arrive for Camp C:

 

You will need to check in at Whalen Gymnasium at 8:45- 9:00am on July 25th. You will be dismissed from the gym at 3:00 pm.

 

Here is the information you will need when you arrive for Camp D:

 

As a day camper, you will check in at Whalen Gymnasium between 9:15 – 9:30am on July 26th. You will be dismissed from the gym both days at 5:30 pm.

 

Here is the information you will need when you arrive for Camp D:

 

As a resident camper, you will check in at Whalen Gymnasium on July 26th between 9:15- 9:30am. Camp ends at 5:30 pm on July 27th at the gym. Please bring your items for the overnight stay with you in the morning to the gym.

 

Remember to leave all valuables at home…we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

 

WHAT TO BRING...

 

Following is a list of items you are encouraged to bring with you as a resident camper:

Sleeping bag or linens for twin sized bed

Pillow

Toiletries (toothbrush, shampoo, etc.)

Alarm clock

Kneepads

Water bottle

Clothing for the entire camp

 

Following is a list of items you are to bring with you to camp as a day camper:

Kneepads

Lots of energy!

 

DIRECTIONS

 

Directions to the gym- take College Drive through stop light at 8th St. Turn left at top of hill. You will see a sign for the college. Take this road to Raider Drive and turn left. This road will dead-end. The gym will be on your right.

 

As with any stay away from home, you will be held responsible for all of your actions while you are under our supervision. No horseplay or vandalism of any kind to Fort Lewis College facilities will be tolerated. Any actions that the camp directors deem inappropriate are grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.

CAMP INFORMATION

A: July 24, 5th-8th Grade
8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. ALL SKILLS CLINIC
Cost: $40

All skill levels 5th thru 8th grade are welcome to attend this session. Activities focus on the basic fundamentals of the game, individual skill instruction, and team play. This is a great opportunity to either introduce volleyball to your child or for her/him to brush up on her/his skills before the school season starts. The $40 fee include a camp souvenir. Nonrefundable: $15

B: July 24, All Ages
1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. SERVING & PASSING CLINIC
Cost: $40

This four hour session is designed and geared toward the development of the libero or defensive specialist, as well as those individuals that would like extra instruction in the areas of passing and serving. The clinic is open to all ages and abilities, and includes a camp souvenir. Non-refundable: $15

C: July 25, All Ages
9 a.m. - 3 p.m. SETTER/HITTER CLINIC
Cost: $65

This clinic is for those athletes who would like to concentrate on improving their setting or hitting skills. All ages are welcome, and groups will be determined by skill ability and position. Skill instruction will begin with the break down of fundamentals progressing into new or advanced techniques. Eventually, the setter/hitters groups will merge and work skills together. This camp includes lunch and a camp souvenir. Non-refundable: $25

D: July 26-27, 9th-12th Grade
9:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. ALL SKILLS CLINIC
Cost: $110 commuter, $150 resident camper

This two-day camp for high schoolers features about 15 hours of individual skill instruction which includes pre-season conditioning, basic fundamentals, advanced techniques and offensive and defensive team strategies. Campers have a choice between commuting each day, or gaining a "college experience" by spending the night in the dorms. Both options include lunch each day and a camp souvenir. *Resident campers' fees include: two additional meals, a night in the dorms and additional activities. Deadline for overnight camper registration must be in by July 4th. Non-refundable: $50

TEAM CAMP 1: July 21-22 or 2: July 28-39
Sat: 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. / Sun: 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
Cost: $40 per player 
Our team camp is for high school varsity and junior varsity teams who are looking for a "head start" on the upcoming season. Activities include preseason conditioning, team bonding, individual and team instruction, and at least six matches against schools from all over the Four Corners and Colorado area. Saturday will include individual and team instruction, followed by pool play. Sunday will conclude the pool play and immediately proceed into a single elimination tournament bracket. Teams have the option of staying on campus in the dorms or making their own arrangements in town. An additional $10 per person per night will be required for those who choose to stay in the dorms. High School coaches are
welcome. Please send in your team registrations together.
*Deadline for overnight campers is July 4th. Non-refundable: $150

Deadlines
Each day camper must return her registration sheet along with proof of insurance and the full amount of each camp by July 16, 2006. The deadline for overnight campers is July 4, 2006. Checks should be made out to Fort Lewis College Volleyball.

Note
Any camper that registers for more than one camp will receive 10% off.

Insurance
Campers must have their own health insurance. Completely fill out the form on this brochure.

What to bring
Campers should bring their own shoes, knee pads and water bottles.
