-- Fort Lewis College to Host 2006 RMAC Men’s Soccer Championship --
DURANGO, Colo. – October 23, 2006 – Fort Lewis College will be hosting the 2006 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship Tournament this weekend, October 27th and 29th. Dirks Field will host three games in as many days as the RMAC crowns their postseason champion.
Fort Lewis College earned the #1 seed and right to host the 2006 RMAC Championship Tournament with a 12-0 conference record this season. The Skyhawks’ perfect 12-0 mark in conference play was a feat very few, if any, have accomplished in conference history. RMAC representatives will present Fort Lewis College President, Dr. Brad Bartel with the 2006 RMAC Regular Season Champions Trophy at halftime of game two on Friday.
Colorado School of Mines earned the #2 seed with a 9-3 RMAC record. The Orediggers lost two games to the Skyhawks and dropped one more conference game to Metro State this season.
The Metro State College Roadrunners earned the #3 seed in the tournament with a 9-3 RMAC record as well. The Roadrunners dropped two games to Fort Lewis along with one loss to Mines. Metro defeated Mines 2-1 on September 8th, while the Roadrunners fell to Mines 0-1 on October 20th.
CSU-Pueblo earned the final seed with a 5-6 conference record. The Thunderwolves lost both of the games to the Roadrunners, Orediggers, and Skyhawks and have one more conference game on Tuesday, October 24th against UC-Colorado Springs.
The four teams will arrive in Durango on Thursday, October 26th to practice followed by a coaches meeting that evening.
Game one will be Friday, October 27th at 11:30 a.m. when #2 Mines plays #3 Metro. Mines and Metro split their series this season with Mines grabbing the most recent win. In game two at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, #1 Fort Lewis will play #4 CSU-Pueblo for the second time in less than a week. The Skyhawks defeated the Thunderwolves 6-2 last Sunday, while beating them 2-1 on September 8th in double overtime. The championship game will be held Sunday, October 29th at 1 p.m. with the winners of game one and two facing off for the 2006 RMAC Championship Tournament Trophy.
Tickets for the tournament will be available at the gate one-hour prior to game time on Friday and Sunday. All-Tournament passes will be sold to adults for $10, students (with valid ID) for $6, and children (12 & under) for $4. The passes will allow fans access to all three games of the tournament.
