Liberal Studies Options

Flexibility, Freedom and Focus

  • Choose your major coursework from 13 disciplines
  • Choose among four tracks with different emphases
  • Add emphasis to your studies by choosing tracks 2, 3, or 4

Track 1: The General Track

  • Study a multidisciplinary major;
    • 30 credits in a primary concentration (7 or 8 courses);
    • 12 credits in each of two secondary concentrations
    • Interesting fact... this track began in 1962

Track 2: The Interdisciplinary Track

  • Complete the requirements for the General Track
  • Take one Honors course that focuses on interdisciplinary study
  • Choose two introductory courses from Environmental Studies or Native American and Indigenous Studies or Gender and Women's Studies for an optional interdisciplinary emphasis

Track 3: The Community Engagement Track

  • Complete the requirements for the General Track
  •  Take one Honors course that focuses on interdisciplinary study
  • Choose two sections of courses with a "community based learning and research" component which allows you to take your academic studies into the community work environment.

Track 4: The Honors Track

  • Complete the requirements for the General Track
  • Take several Honors courses
  • You have the challenge of exposure to the Honors Program
  • You'll receive a Certificate in Honors upon completion
