Connect to my Resources

What shares do I have access to? - On a windows machine press the windows button and the R key at the same time. This will open a run window. Type in \\fortlewis.edu\shares and click ok. This will bring up a window showing all shares that you have access to.  

To map a drive on a windows machine:

Windows XP:

  • right click your start button and choose explore
  • On the top toolbar click tools>map network drive
  • Change the drive letter to M: for your personal share or O: for a department share
  • In the folder box type \\fortlewis.edu\shares\your share name (example; for your personal share type fortlewis.edu\shares\your username)
  • If you do not know your username or the name of your shared departmental space please contact the Call Center at 7444.

Windows 7:

  • right click your start button and choose open windows explorer
  • On the top toolbar click tools>map network drive
  • Change the drive letter to M: for your personal share or O: for a department share
  • In the folder box type \\fortlewis.edu\shares\your share name (example: for your personal share type fortlewis.edu\shares\your username)
  • If you do not know your username or the name of your shared departmental space please contact the Call Center at 7444.

To connect to a drive on a Macintosh:

For newer Macintosh computers with OSx 10.7-10.8*

  1. On the Finder menu select Go -> Connect to Server
  2. Enter "smb://fortlewis.edu/shares" in the "Server Address" field
  3. Click the "Connect" button
  4. If prompted for a username and password type in your Fort Lewis credentials.
    Username needs to be fully qualified by being in one of the following formats:
    "username@fortlewis.edu" or "fortlewis\username".

For Older Macintosh Computers with OSx 10.3-10.6*

First determine the name of your network resource using the following table

STUDENT M drive:

Your username begins with... Network Resource Name defined as...
A or B StudentABCD/SharesAB all student accounts that begin with A or B (ex: ajdoe) 
C or D StudentABCD/SharesCD all student accounts that begin with C or D (ex: cjdoe) 
E,F,G,H, or I StudentEFGHI/Shares all student accounts that begin with E,F,G,H, or I (ex: fjdoe) 
J StudentJ-O/SharesJ all student accounts that begin with J (ex: jjdoe) 
K or L StudentJ-O/SharesKL all student accounts that begin with K or L (ex: kjdoe) 
M,N, or O StudentJ-O/SharesMNO all student accounts that begin with M,N, or O (ex: mjdoe) 
P,Q,R, or S StudentP-Z/SharesPQRS all student accounts that begin with P,Q,R, or S (ex: rjdoe) 
T,U,V,W,X.Y,orZ StudentP-Z/SharesTUVWXYZ all student accounts that begin with T,U,V,W,X,Y or Z (ex: wjdoe) 

FACULTY and STAFF M drive:

Network Resource Name  Defined as
StaffUsers/Shares all staff accounts (don't know if you are staff? call 7444)
FacultyUsers/Shares all faculty accounts (don't know if you are faculty? call 7444)

To map your drive 

  • Select Finder
  • Open the Go menu and select Connect to Server
  • Type smb://your resource name/shares/your username
    • NOTE: you must replace your resource name with the resource name from the table above (ex: StudentAB)
    • NOTE: you must replace your username with the username you use to logon to computers at Fort Lewis College (ex: ajdoe)
  • Click connect
  • If you are promoted for credentials enter your regular Fort Lewis College username and password

*To determine which version of OSx your computer is using click on the Apple Menu and Select "About This Mac."
