The Minority Access to Research Careers – Undergraduate Student Training in Academic Research Program (MARC U*STAR) at Fort Lewis College is funded by a research training grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, one of the National Institutes of Health.

The objective of this honors undergraduate research training program is to prepare Native American, African American, Hispanic, and Pacific Islander students majoring in scientific disciplines to pursue Ph.D.s and long term careers in biomedical or behavioral science research.   Faculty mentors at FLC train a small group of highly qualified junior and senior under-represented students in an honors program strong in research opportunities and science curriculum.

There are two ways for students to participate in the MARC U*STAR — the Research Trainee Program (for Juniors and Seniors) and the
