Facilities Master Plan

New Buildings and Phasing

The space planning model (refer to Reference Information) indicates that space needs for current enrollments are relatively minor, however there is a slight deficit of residential space. This is due primarily to the amount of space required to support each student for today’s living styles, as opposed to the number of beds on campus.

Phase I (Replacement Buildings) on the Building/Phasing Plan indicate facilities that are needed today or in the near future.  These are not driven by space requirements as much as quality issues and functional obsolescence.

Phase II indicates the facilities that are required to meet an enrollment of 5000 full time equivalent students.

Future buildings that may be needed because of changing programmatic needs or by other unknown developments are indicated by dashed lines. When looking to future, it will be important for the College to be flexible enough to take advantage of opportunities that may arise.

Sequencing and priorities of new facilities are outlined as part of the Implementation Plan.  The Physical Development Plan’s process continually looks at priorities as they relate to academic needs and matches them with potential revenue sources.

Sites along Fort Lewis Drive at the north entry are thought to be well suited for buildings that will enhance the College's partnerships amongst community and private entities.

Some facilities will likely need to be razed.  These include College Union Building, Theater and many housing facilities. This is based on a combination of factors including the current building condition, the ability to support programs over a long period of time and building efficiencies including operational, maintenance and life cycle costs.

New building structures will be built to enhance the sense of place here at Fort Lewis through adherence to the campus architecural standards as described through the link below.
