The Fort Lewis College Music Department and the Fort Lewis College Artist in Residence program are proud to host the 2010 Southwest Colorado Day of Percussion.
We are excited to bring you guest clinician/soloist She-e Wu of Northwestern University, and guest clinician James Doyle of Adams State College.
Please join us for a day of clinics/master classes culminating in a concert at 5:00pm in the Roshong Recital Hall featuring world-renowned marimba artist She-e Wu. The concert will feature solo works for marimba and a final piece accompanied by the Fort Lewis College Percussion Ensemble.
The Southwest Colorado Day of Percussion is free and open to the public. The afternoon concert is free to full day participants. If you do not participate in the conference you may purchase a concert ticket at a cost of just $15 for adults and $5 for students.

She-e Wu Associate Professor, Percussion Northwestern University Beinen School of Music |
Ms. Wu is coordinator, percussion program at Northwestern University and a former member of jazz faculties at the Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Studied under Robert Schietroma, Leigh Howard Stevens, Ed Soph, and Tzong-Ching Ju. Member of the Bob Becker Ensemble. Convention appearances as a solo artist include Percussive Arts Society International Conventions, National Percussion Convention of Spain, and the International Percussion Convention. Festival appearances as a solo artist include Journées de la Percussion, NancyPhony Festival, perKumania Festival, PercuPassion Festival, Back Symposium/Bach Variation Festival at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, International Percussion Festival, and Giornate della Percussione in Italy. Active composer, with premieres at the Journées de la Percussion festival and the Taipei International Percussion Convention. Guest recitalist and clinician at universities and conservatories in France, Belgium, Italy, Sweden, Denmark, England and Germany. Served as judge for the PAS Composition Competition and International Percussion Ensemble Competition. Clinician/recitalist for Dynasty, Zildjian and Innovative Percussion.(more info)

James Doyle Visiting Assistant Professor Adams State College |
James is currently on faculty at Adams State College where he teaches courses in percussion, world music, music literature, and directs the percussion ensemble. He has taught music literature at Trinidad State Junior College and undergraduate lessons, percussion ensemble, and marimba ensemble as a graduate assistant at LSU. Other teaching positions have included the Louisiana State University Music Academy, Yamaha Sounds of Summer Percussion Camp, LSU Chamber Winds Camp, the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, Grandview High School, Knob Noster High School, and several high school percussion ensembles and drum lines in Missouri, Louisiana, California, and Colorado. Additionally, James presents clinics and master classes at numerous colleges and universities, maintains a successful private teaching studio, is an active music festival clinician and adjudicator, and is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and a Vic Firth endorser. He currently performs with the Air National Guard Band of the Gulf Coast, Ft. Worth, The Medano Creek Jazz Trio, the celtic group, Tripping Upstairs, the Doyle-Kane Duo for flute and percussion, and tours and records regularly with the Air Force Band of the Golden West and the Band of Mid-America. Michael B. Vercelli Percussionist Performer Educator Director of the World Music Center at West Virginia University |
| Dr. Michael B. Vercelli is the director of the World Music Performance Center at West Virginia University. Michael holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Percussion Performance with a minor in Ethnomusicology from the University of Arizona. While well versed in the classical percussion repertoire, Michael’s specialty lies in non-Western instruments. He has studied the traditional music of other countries and done fieldwork in Bali, Cuba, Brazil, and primarily, Ghana. Dr. Vercelli has received many awards for both his performance and study of indigenous music such as being named a Fulbright Alternate and recipient of numerous grants including the prestigious Northern Trust/ Piper Enrichment Scholarship, which enabled him to spend seven months in West Africa researching his dissertation project on Ghanaian xylophone.
