The Fort Lewis College Jazz Ensemble, is the college's premiere jazz group performing serveral concerts each semester on and off campus. The ensemble performs a wide variety of styles associated with the jazz idiom. Literature ranges from standards to moderns works composed and arranged by local and national composers. The Jazz Ensemble is the featured group performing at the Four Corners/Fort Lewis College Jazz Festival each winter term. The guest artists who have performed with the ensemble in recent years have been Bruce Paulson, Chris Vadala, Alex Acuña, Brad Goode, and John Fedchock. Tim Ries will be the featured artist, guest conductor, and clinician for the 2009 Jazz Festival to be held March 5th.
The Fort Lewis Jazz Combo is an important opportunity for any performer that wants to improve improvisation skills and develop their ability to perform in a smaller setting. The group performs a variety of styles from swing to Latin music. The class is open to majors and non-majors.
