The Concert Choir (MU 105/305) meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 11:15am-12:10pm. This is our large choir (usually around 75-80 singers). There is no audition for this group; all you need to do is enroll. We will place you after the school year begins. You do NOT have to be a music major to enroll in Concert Choir. Approximately 50% of our choir is composed of non-music majors, from freshmen through seniors. Concert Choir generally performs three to four concerts a year.
The Chamber Choir is our small (20-24 voices) mixed ensemble, which is selected by audition at the beginning of the school year. The group performs many different kinds of music, concentrating generally on serious choral works written for chamber ensembles. The Chamber Choir meets on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 3:25 pm. In order to audition, prepare a solo, and I will ask you to vocalize, test your range, and sight read.
Our Men’s and Women’s Ensembles are small select groups which perform all types of music. These choirs are selected by audition at the beginning of the school year.
You will receive one hour of academic credit for each choir in which you participate. Auditions for each of the select choirs will be held during the first week of school. You may sign up for an audition time on my door in room 210 Jones Hall, or you may call Linda Mack at (970) 247-7251. By the way, freshmen are welcome to audition for the select choirs, and we expect openings in all voice parts. I strongly urge you to enroll in Concert Choir if you wish to be considered for one of the select groups, since preference will be given to Concert Choir members.
One last thing- if you have already registered and find a schedule conflict between choir and another class DON’T WORRY! I can help you readjust your schedule to include choir. Just come by and see me, and I will help you work it out. If you are not currently enrolled in choir, it is very easy to add it in the fall. Just show up for the first rehearsal and I will help you get properly enrolled.
Thank you so much for your interest in choir. You will find it an exciting musical experience and a great way to meet new people as you enter college. I am looking forward to meeting you in the fall.
