For one week, during the fall and winter semesters, the NAC hosts a well respected elder from different Native American Nations. These elders come from all parts of the country and are chosen for their deep cultural and spiritual knowledge as well as their leadership in academia and Native causes.
During their week at FLC the Elder-in-Residence spends the majority of her / his time with the students in one-on-one meetings, speaking in classrooms, and in meetings with other FLC programs, faculty and staff. This program is designed to foster cultural, academic, social, and spiritual support for our students as well as enrich the campus and local communities. Past elders have included: Dr. Joe Suina (Cochiti Pueblo), Dr. Henrietta Mann (Cheyenne), Dr. Nancy Lucero (Choctaw) and Dr. Lloyd Elm (Onondaga).
Please check out the latest NAC calendar, or stop by the Native American Center for more information.
*We value your input! If you would like to recommend an elder for this program, please contact Jim Engle at Engle_J@fortlewis.edu.
