First Native American takes charge of Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College

As Ms. Karen Wilde begins her tenure as chair of the Board of Trustees for Fort Lewis College, history is being made. Ms. Wilde is the first Native American chair of the Board, which is the governing body for Fort Lewis College, an institution with a century-old commitment to educating Native American and Alaska Native peoples.

I work in Marketing and Communications under the Division of Institutional Advancement. My official title is Web Developer/Analytics & SEO Coordinator. Along with Scott Kadera, I develop and manage the FLC website. In addition, I work to improve the visibility of the FLC website on the web, track and analyze the resulting web traffic metrics, and handle online advertising via Google AdWords. My job is technical and always changing which keeps it exciting. This is my 7th year at FLC.

FLC honored with national award for collegiate advertising

Fort Lewis College was named among the top in the nation in the 2014/2015 Collegiate Advertising Awards program. The Collegiate Advertising Awards (CAA) is an elite program recognizing higher education organizations for excellence in communications, marketing, advertising and promotions of their schools.

Dr. Kenny Miller named winner of 2014 Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award

Fort Lewis College Assistant Professor of Chemistry Dr. Kenny Miller, the 2014-15 Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award winner, had options as to where he wanted to teach, but he chose a small undergraduate school like Fort Lewis College because he felt he could have the most impact on his students here.

“The really transformational opportunities, the opportunities to set a trajectory for a person’s career and their life, happen here,” Dr. Miller says, “happen at the undergraduate level. So I wanted to be a part of that.”

Dr. Marcelyn Jung named winner of 2014 Achievement Award

Associate Professor of Exercise Science and Gender & Women’s Studies Dr. Marcy Jung’s career at Fort Lewis College is filled with impressive achievements. From the 1988 FLC Volleyball team she coached being inducted into the FLC Athletic Hall of Fame to years spent working on campus wellness initiatives to offering the Commencement invocation each year.
