DURANGO- Fiesta on the Mesa 2011 will be held on Wednesday, September 7, from 5-8 p.m. on the Fort Lewis College Student Union Plaza. The public is invited to join with the College community in partaking of the great food and entertainment that makes Fiesta on the Mesa one of the most popular events on campus.
El Centro de Muchos Colores, the College's Hispano resource center, holds the Fiesta to demonstrate the pride the Hispanic students, faculty and staff have in their cultural heritage and celebrate the diversity of the FLC community. The Fiesta also commemorates National Hispanic Heritage Month.
One highlight of this year’s celebration will be alumni stories shared by Hispanic alumni of Fort Lewis College, including FLC Associate Professor Jennifer Trujillo and community member, Thad Trujillo.
Archunde Farms in Blanco, NM, will be on hand to sell and roast chiles. Bushels can be purchased at the Fiesta or pre-ordered online at www.justroastit.com.
To go along with the chiles will be the Fiesta dinner provided by Sodexo. The traditional Hispanic meal is free to all FLC students, faculty and staff with ID. For community members and guests, the meal price will be $8 for adults and $4 for children under the age of 10.
Free for everyone is the Fiesta on the Mesa entertainment. Entertainment this year includes live norteño music from a local band and a mariachi group from Santa Fe. In addition, the colorful Baile Folklorico dance group will be back again to brighten up the evening celebration.
