Alumna's climb of Mt. Shasta benefits Breast Cancer Fund

Kelsy Woodson says she learned to dream big at Fort Lewis College. In June she is putting those dreams to use, when she climbs California's Mt. Shasta as part of the Breast Cancer Fund’s “Climb Against the Odds.”

“I have never climbed anything like Mt. Shasta. But I will do so with cancer survivors and other climbers who have lost those dear to them,” Woodson says. “We will be raising awareness about breast cancer, and raising money to help remove toxic elements from our environment that are known to cause cancer.”

#1 FLC Cycling Team rides hard into Road Nationals

The Fort Lewis College Cycling team defends its ranking as the country's #1 Division I collegiate cycling program this weekend at the USA Cycling Collegiate Road Nationals, May 3 - 5, in Ogden, Utah. The event completes the five-discipline collegiate cycling year, which also includes track, mountain bike, cyclocross, and BMX.

FLC grads offered guidance on building Brand Me

On a beautiful spring day in Durango, over 400 new Fort Lewis College graduates and their families filled Whalen Gym twice for the two April Commencement ceremonies.

The next steps after this special day are different for each graduate, but Commencement Speaker Ann Rhoades offered some advice that could apply to all of them.

Undergraduate Research Symposium caps science students’ careers at Fort Lewis College

DURANGO, CO - “The Production of TNF-α Inflammatory Cytokines by RAW 264.7 Macrophage Cells as a Result of Exposure to Aggregatibacter Actinomycetemcomitans.” It sounds like the title of a research project you might find in a prestigious scientific journal or being conducted at a large research university. The truth, however, is that this project, and dozens more just like it, are being done by Fort Lewis College undergraduate students.

Dr. Susan Kraus named winner of 2013 Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award

For Dr. Susan Kraus, associate professor of psychology at Fort Lewis College and recipient of the 2013 Alice Admire Outstanding Teaching Award, began, in part, by getting criticized while earning her graduate degrees from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

“As a graduate student, I was chastised for spending too much time mentoring my students, and was pushed to prioritize research,” she recalls. “While I love research, and have not neglected that part of my career, teaching always will be my highest priority.”
