John L. Smith — a longtime NCAA Division I head coach with success at six different universities — will become head football coach at Fort Lewis College effective March 1, Skyhawk Director of Athletics Gary Hunter announced today.
Defensive coordinator Ed Rifilato will continue to oversee day-to-day operations until Smith arrives on campus.

DURANGO - For one day in August, Durango and Fort Lewis College will go from being the center of the collegiate cycling world to the center of the professional cycling world when the USA Pro Cycling Challenge stage race comes to town on August 20. The Fort Lewis College Foundation and Guido’s Favorite Foods are offering a one-of-a-kind chance to experience the Pro Cycling Challenge up close and personal, while supporting the FLC Cycling Team at the same time.

Fort Lewis College is an institution used to being in the spotlight when it comes to collegiate cycling. The Skyhawk Cycling Team boasts 19 USA Cycling national championships and has won the coveted title of best cycling program in the nation three years running. Now with the impending arrival of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, FLC is preparing to become the center of the professional cycling universe, at least for a few days in August.

On July 19, 2012, a new era of Fort Lewis College Athletics will begin as the College unveils two new Skyhawk logos, a primary and secondary logo. The official unveiling ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. in the Student Union Vallecito Room. Everyone is invited.
