Academic spotlight on the Athletic Training Education Program

What's it like to be a student in the FLC Athletic Training Education Program? As program director Carrie Meyer says, “The unique thing about our program here at Fort Lewis College is that students get going in Athletic Training their very first semester. When students graduate … they’re ready to go out and be health care professionals. We want to give students as much time to gain those skills as possible.”

Melissa, Mary, Julia, and Nina talk about getting clinical experience with a variety of different types of patients early in their education and feeling prepared to enter health care careers right out of college.

Skyhawk Football looking for another upset win for Homecoming on October 16

Fort Lewis College shocked the Division II football world last weekend with an upset win over the second-ranked team in the country, CSU-Pueblo. On Thursday, October 16 at 6 p.m. at Dennison Field, the Skyhawks are looking to take down another nationally ranked opponent when Colorado School of Mines comes to Durango for FLC’s Homecoming Football Game.

FLC Hockey team scores with campus and Durango community

In hockey-crazy Durango, having a new game in town is always welcome. And Durango has zealously welcomed the squad from Fort Lewis College as it brought collegiate hockey to the town's home ice. The 2013-14 season marks FLC Hockey's first season in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. In the league, the Skyhawks play a 15-game schedule against teams from Colorado and New Mexico, including trips to Denver to challenge the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado-Denver, to Albuquerque to face off against the University of New Mexico, and to Gunnison, Colorado, to take on nearby rival Western State Colorado University.

Skyhawk Volleyball comes home after a month on the road

On Friday, October 4, after nearly a month on the road, the Fort Lewis College Women’s Volleyball team will play their first regular season home match against Western State. On the sidelines of Whalen Gym will be the Skyhawks new head volleyball coach, Kelly Rifilato.

Longtime Division I coach Smith to take reins of FLC football program

John L. Smith — a longtime NCAA Division I head coach with success at six different universities — will become head football coach at Fort Lewis College effective March 1, Skyhawk Director of Athletics Gary Hunter announced today.
 
Defensive coordinator Ed Rifilato will continue to oversee day-to-day operations until Smith arrives on campus.
