FLC Hall of Fame quarterback to offer address at Commencement ceremonies

John Chisholm (’76), a member of the Fort Lewis College Athletic Hall of Fame, will offer the Commencement Address at FLC’s Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 3, 2014. Two ceremonies will be held to accommodate the more than 500 graduates and their families, the first beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the second at 11:30 a.m. Both ceremonies will be held in Whalen Gym. Undergraduate Research Symposium is FLC’s biggest day for student research

On Thursday, April 24, one of the largest research showcases in the Four Corners region will take place at Fort Lewis College’s Undergraduate Research Symposium. Stemming from the College’s recent formation of the School of Arts & Sciences, both artistic and scientific projects will be part of the symposium. The event is free and the public is encouraged to attend.

First-generation graduate will help others reach their dreams in Teach For America program

When Marissa Molina and her parents first moved from Chihuahua, Mexico, to Glenwood Springs, Colorado, the only English she knew was “I don't speak English.” Today, her English is excellent, and in May she will become the first in her family to earn a college degree. But before attaining that particular first, Molina has already accomplished something no other Fort Lewis College student has ever done: She is the first-ever accepted into Teach For America, a nonprofit that places high-achieving college graduates into low-income communities to teach in challenging environments.

FLC Biology professor is first to win national Excellence in Education award

Assistant Professor of Biology Heidi Steltzer is the first recipient of the Sulzman Award for Excellence in Education and Mentoring from the American Geophysical Union. The award acknowledges both creativity in research and leadership in forging the next generation of scientists. The Sulzman Award is named for the late Elizabeth Sulzman, a scientist and teacher at Oregon State University remembered for her tremendous impact on her students.

Advice on navigating financial aid available at College Goal Sunday at Fort Lewis College

On Sunday, February 9, Fort Lewis College will host College Goal Sunday. The aim is to connect students interested in college and their families with financial aid professionals. The event offers guidance on ways to pay for college, specifically how to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which is a crucial step in the college planning process. College Goal Sunday is free, open to everyone, and will take place from 1-3 p.m. in Reed Library on campus.
