Players all in for Skyhawk Football home opener

On Saturday, September 14, the Fort Lewis College Football team will set foot on Dennison Field for their first home game of the 2013 season. It will be a new beginning for a team with many new players, as well as a new coach at the helm. It will also be a chance at turning the page for returning players coming off an 0-10 season last year.

Meet some new faces on campus

Freshmen aren't the only people new to campus this year: take a few minutes to meet some of our new faculty!

What is your field of study? Why did you choose it?
My Ph.D. is in Instruction and Curriculum with a focus on Research in Teaching and Teacher Education. Within that broad field, my main areas of interest and study are cultural competence and teaching for social justice. I have taught a wide range of courses and consider myself a teacher education generalist. I chose this field because I am passionate about pedagogy and its effect on learners. I wanted to understand more in depth how people learn in ways that are active, meaningful, relevant, and memorable. Read the rest of entry »

President Thomas welcomes new students at Fall Convocation

DURANGO – On Friday, August 30, 2013, more than 1,100 new freshmen and transfer students, along with their friends and family, packed Whalen Gym at Fort Lewis College for Fall Convocation. Convocation marks the official end of New Student Orientation and the beginning of the school year.

FLC Cyclists pass their joy and skills on to kids

They just love sharing the love.

 

That’s the strongest thing fueling the kinship that has developed between the FLC Cycling team and Durango Devo, a six-year-old youth-development cycling club for Durango-area kids and young adults. And with an area like southwestern Colorado to cycle around, the program’s participants and alumni have already made their mark in amateur, collegiate, and professional cycling.

From Student Union to the stage, alumna tackles the business of being funny

You never know when, or where, you'll find your life path.


“My first experience with stand-up comedy was at an open mic night on campus,” says comedian Adrianne Chalepah (English, '09). “A friend encouraged me, and I got hooked. The students laughed and were so supportive. So I give that night credit for giving me the courage to pursue it as a career.”

Today, Chalepah averages three stand-up shows per month at venues ranging from casinos to powwows to college campuses to conferences (she's a motivational speaker, too).
