Fireworks added to the Fort Lewis College Homecoming events for 2013

DURANGO – Fort Lewis College Homecoming 2013, which runs from October 16-19, will be a blast this year, literally. A fireworks show is being introduced to go along with the traditional Homecoming events.

Hozhoni Days marks its 49th year at Fort Lewis College

For 49 years, Hozhoni Days (meaning Days of Beauty) has been one of Fort Lewis College’s premier events. The Native American-centered celebration runs throughout the month of March and includes pageantry, speakers and workshops, to name just a few events, all culminating with the Hozhoni Days Powwow.

Art competition gives students experience in public art

I grew up in a small fishing town in Southeast Alaska,” says Senior Art major Janine Gibbons. "Petersburg is on an island perched between glaciers and tall majestic mountains. Founded by Norwegians, my hometown was covered in traditional colorful folk art that originated in Scandinavia. Using saturated hues merged with organic abstracted shapes reminds me of my Scandinavian heritage.”

Election attention shines an educational light on FLC

Fort Lewis College has been a regional focus of this year's battle for the White House -- and FLC students have been the real winners.
 
First Lady Michele Obama, Republican Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan, and Libertarian Party Vice Presidential candidate Jim Gray all stopped by to stump on campus in the tense last month of the campaign. Obama spoke on October 10, Ryan on October 22, and Gray on October 29.

Caring & combat: Common Reading Experience examines war and compassion

War: a timely, complex, and often difficult topic to tackle. Which is exactly why The Heart & the Fist is this year's choice for the Common Reading Experience: because it asks hard questions and doesn't offer easy answers, and so inspires reflection, analysis, and discussion.

And, to join in on the discussion, The Heart and the Fist author Eric Greitens will hold a lecture and book signing at the Community Concert Hall on Sept. 27. He will also visit classes that day.
