Dr. Kelly Jenks named winner of 2014 New Faculty Teaching Award

Some might think that we already know pretty much all there is to know about the past, especially the history of this country. Assistant Professor of Anthropology Dr. Kelly Jenks, however, always felt that there was more to history than what she was taught growing up. From an early age, the 2014-15 Fort Lewis College New Faculty Teaching Award winner felt the need to study the past, particularly that of the Southwest, in order to help others learn about their heritage and gain a new and deeper perspective on the world. Ms. Kami Parrish-Larson named winner of Outstanding Staff Award

Hands-on learning and research are so important to students at Fort Lewis College, and those opportunities wouldn’t happen as well as they do without Biology Lab Coordinator Kami Parrish-Larson. She does everything from prepping freshman labs to helping senior seminar students find and use lab and field equipment. It’s a ton of work, but it’s something Ms. Parrish-Larson particularly enjoys. Students' robots tackle tough terrain in planetary exploration challenge

Four FLC students got to experience first-hand the challenges of designing, developing, and building – and then presenting in public – a robotic vehicle for traversing the surface of an alien planet.

Students from the Physics & Engineering Department put their creations to the test in April at the 8th Annual Colorado Space Grant Consortium Robotics Challenge, held at Great Sand Dunes National Park. The site is so like an alien world, in fact, that it is where the two Viking Mars Landers were tested before their pioneering voyages to Mars in 1975. Read the rest of entry »

IHBC + FLC = crazy good cycling times this weekend!

Fort Lewis College will be a prominent presence at the 43rd annual Iron Horse Bicycle Classic this weekend, May 24, 25, and 26. From the FLC Road Scholars Team, to the Cross Country Race hosted by Fort Lewis College, to a mountain biking clinic for high school-aged riders coached by cycling legends, that Skyhawk cycling spirit will be easy to find.
