Tour de France rider Tom Danielson to conduct Q&A at Fort Lewis College

The public is invited to get to know highest placing American in the 2011 Tour de France and Fort Lewis College alumnus, Tom Danielson. Tom will conduct a Q&A on Friday, September 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College. The tickets are free and can be picked up, first-come, first-served, at the Community Concert Hall beginning at 5 p.m. on the day of the event.

Fort Lewis makes the most of its Durango location

Outside Magazine loves Durango. That's why in the magazine's October 2011 feature "Best Places to Live," they call Durango the "Next Big Thing." Who can blame them?

At Fort Lewis College, though, it's not news that Durango is a big thing. Durangoans love big peaks, high water, deep canyons, and powder days. But Durango wouldn't be that "best place" without Fort Lewis College's vibrant, youthful energy that keeps this historic town cutting cultural fresh tracks all year round.

Recent research conducted by Fort Lewis Chemistry professor Dr. Monte Helm in collaboration with the Center for Molecular Electrocatalysis at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) has the potential to make delivering renewable energy to the world on a large scale a reality.

Student Union unites campus

Starting this Fall, there is a new nexus of campus life at Fort Lewis. The renovated and expanded Student Union (the grand opening for which will be Tuesday, Sept. 6 -- see sidebar) is now the hub for student entertainment and activities, where the campus community can go to study or read, find inspiration in speakers and lectures, get entertained with movies and performances, or share lunch or a cup of coffee while making life-long friendships and connections with other community members.

By the students, for the students. That's the story of FLC's new Student Union.

The $41.5 million refurbishing and expansion of the former College Union Building creates a vibrant new hub of campus life, energizing the student experience at FLC. And it has been, from conception to design to funding, a student-driven endeavor.
