DURANGO - The long-awaited Berndt Hall Biology wing project is underway. The old wing is gone and construction on the foundation of the new building is proceeding.
A groundbreaking ceremony for the new Biology wing will be held on Friday, October 3, from 3-4 p.m. on the north side of Berndt Hall near the Chemistry building.
A Native American blessing will take place followed by remarks from the building architects and contractors, as well as Fort Lewis College administrators and faculty. Biology student and faculty research will also be on display.
The new Biology wing will stretch over 33,000 square feet, more than twice the size of the old building. It will house classrooms, labs and faculty office space. The Agricultural program at FLC will also be housed in the new wing, which will cost more than $17 million.
Construction should be completed in time for the winter 2010 semester.
