DURANGO, CO - Fort Lewis College was honored recently with a top 50 ranking on the Forbes list of “America’s Best Public Colleges.” FLC is ranked #41 on the list of the top 100 public colleges and universities in the U.S.
“To our way of thinking, a good college is one that meets student needs,” Richard Vedder and David M. Ewalt wrote in their Forbes special report, “America’s Best Colleges 2009.” “While some college rankings are based partly on school reputation as evaluated by college administrators and on the amount of money spent, we focus on things which directly concern incoming students: Will my courses be interesting and rewarding? Will I get a good job after I graduate? Is it likely I will graduate in four years? Will I incur a ton of debt getting my degree?”
The United States Military Academy, or West Point, came in first on the “America’s Best Public Colleges” list, as well as Forbes’ “America’s Best Colleges” list, which also included private institutions. The broader “America’s Best Colleges” list included 600 institutions nationwide. Fort Lewis College again ranked in the top half at #246.
Located in beautiful Durango, CO, Fort Lewis College certainly deserves its place among the best colleges in the U.S. Students at FLC receive a great education, and the success they earn proves it.
Just a few highlights are:
- 72 percent of FLC Accounting students passing their CPA exams, the highest percentage in Colorado;
- four students from Assistant Professor of English Pam Uschuk’s class studying at the Prague Summer Program after winning prestigious John Woods Scholarships;
- Fort Lewis College students soon beginning work with FLC Professor of Geosciences David Gonzales and experts from Arizona, Colorado and New Mexico to analyze the origins of the Navajo volcanic field here in the Four Corners.
