Renowned educator kicks off FLC Native American Center Speaker Series

DURANGO, CO - The first speaker of the Fort Lewis College Native American Center Speaker Series 2009-10, Dr. Lloyd Elm, will speak on campus on November 9, 2009. Dr. Elm’s presentation, entitled “The History of Indigenous Education and Our Victory,” will begin at the Center of Southwest Studies Lyceum at 5:30 p.m. Preceding the talk will be a reception at 4:30 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

 

Dr. Elm, Onondaga (Iroquois Confederacy in New York State), is on the forefront of Native American education.

 

Dr. Elm’s entire professional career has been in education where he has worked in all levels of Native education—teacher, principal, professor, lecturer for American Indian Studies at Cornell University and now associate professor at Buffalo State University. Dr. Elm has also worked for the US Department of Education in Washington, DC, been an interim director of the Institute for the Development of Indian Law, and been appointed to various committees of the New York State Board of Regents.
