Support for your STEM teacher training

NSF LogoIn response to the need for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) K-12 teachers in the Southwest’s Four Corners region, we created a teacher training program to support the communities in our beautiful backyard. The Four Corners Noyce Scholars Program is a National Science Foundation (NSF)-supported1 scholarship program aimed at increasing the number of highly-qualified STEM teachers in K-12 schools throughout the Four Corners region.

FCNS offers the following opportunities to students:

  • Stipends for first-year and sophomore-level STEM majors who work with youth while touring science labs, doing experimental demos, leading a table at a math festival, tutoring, taking engaging activities to classrooms, and more.
  • Paid summer intensive STEM teaching experiences through the Powerhouse Science Center, Durango Nature Studies, Math and Science camps, etc.
  • Two years of scholarship support (>$25,000 per year) for junior- and senior-level STEM majors who pursue teacher certification in conjunction with their STEM major.
  • One year of scholarship support (>$25,000) for post-bac/MAE: Teacher Licensure students who have completed a STEM major and now seek teacher certification.
  • Stipends to former Noyce Scholars as they complete professional support activities during their first year of teaching.

FCNS is intentionally designed to prepare teachers to meet the unique needs of students and schools in the Four Corners region’ rural and diverse communities. Scholarships recipients teach two years in a high needs school for each year funded. Program activities and academic preparation will equip teachers to bring equity and understanding to the classroom, while acknowledging how factors from outside the classroom may still impact student learning.
