The process of becoming a SOL Leader begins with the completion of an application followed by an in-person interview with the OP professional staff.  If chosen for the program, the real fun begins with the SOL Training—three weeks of intense fun in the outdoors!

Week 1:  Leadership Nuts-n-Bolts (On-Campus) 

  • Leadership Development Theory
  • Team Building
  • The “Big Picture” of OP Trips
  • Van Driver/Trailer Training
  • Food Planning & Buying

Week 2:  Group Backcountry Experience (Off-Campus)

  • Leave No Trace Training
  • Technical Skill Development
  • Teaching to Your Peers

Week 3:  Group Solo Experience (Off-Campus)
