Graduate School

PAA offers workshops and individual guidance in all aspects of the graduate school application process. In some semesters PAA takes eligible junior and senior participants on a field trip to a regional graduate school such as Colorado State University, Adams State College, Northern Arizona University or the University of New Mexico.  Participants meet with graduate school faculty, visit departments on campuses, learn about financing a graduate education and all about the application process.

Advising and Counseling

PAA offers individualized academic advising and counseling. After being admitted into PAA, you will meet with a program advisor to design an academic plan.  Your academic progress is monitored and help is available at every step of the way.

PAA can also assist you with personal concerns that may be affecting your ability to do your best at FLC.

Financial Aid Counseling

The PAA staff is trained to answer your questions and help you with your federal financial aid (FAFSA) application. They can also help you explore other sources of financial aid.

Beginning in 2001-02  PAA was able to offer supplemental Financial Aid to a small number of program participants.  It is expected that this aid will continue to be available.

The FLC Financial Aid Administrator provides a workshop on applying for financial aid twice each year specifiically for PAA participants.  PAA staff work closely with the Financial Aid office to assist you with any questions or concerns about your financial aid package.

Tutoring

As a PAA member you can request a tutor in any subject and receive one-on-one tutoring free of charge. The PAA tutoring program is nationally certified by the College Reading and Learning Association.  All program tutors are upper-division FLC students who have excelled in the courses in which they are tutoring and who have completed a tutor training program through PAA. Tutoring is a great resource to get help with a course you are struggling in or just better understand course material.

Drop-In Writing Tutor: A drop-in writing tutor  is available at the PAA computer lab, free of charge to all program participants. No appointments are necessary --assistance is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.  Please call or come by for the drop-in tutoring schedule as it changes each semester.

Algebra Alcove Tutoring: The Algebra Alcove offers a free drop in one-on-one tutoring service. It is located in Jones Hall, Room 147. The Algebra Alcove is generally open and staffed 9:30 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. You can call 970-247-6392 or 970-247-7164.
