2002 ~ The Administrative Assistants’ Council was created by Carol Smith and Susie Young as a means of collaboration and a social connection for academic administrative assistants.
2003 ~ The Council was expanded to include administrative support staff from nearly every college office/department. Carol Smith remained as the Dean Liaison, while the Council was coordinated by volunteer staff.
2004 ~ A listserv was created for the Administrative Assistants’ Council. It has been used frequently by its members to make inquiries, resolve issues and gather information. The Council was also issued an organizational budget code.
2005 ~ The Council was officially designated as a college committee. A mentoring program was implemented for new and current employees with resources and trainings to familiarize them with Fort Lewis College's policies and procedures.
2013 ~ The Council formally adopted the new name of Professional Development Council to be further inclusive of the staff of Fort Lewis College. The Council is currently coordinated by the Office of Human Resources and volunteer staff members.
Members continue to meet with newly-hired administrative staff to provide infomormation about the Professional Development Council and to offer mentoring. The Council's membership represents approximately 36 departments across campus.
