Elevator problems are few and far between, but they do occasionally happen. If you find yourself stuck in an elevator, you should do the following:

  • There is an emergency phone in the elevator. Utilize this phone to alert the authorities that you are stuck in an elevator and where the elevator is located.
  • If you have a cell phone and you can get service, you may use that to call for help too. Call Central Dispatch at 385-2900 or Fort Lewis College Police at 970-749-6581.
  • In the event that you do not have a cell phone, it is not working, and/or the emergency phone is not working, there is an audible alarm you can activate from inside the elevator to alert persons outside that you need help.
  • Above all else, do not panic. There has never been an instance of anyone being stuck in an elevator at Fort Lewis College for more than an hour. You will be released as soon as possible, in most cases within a few minutes.
