Career Profile: Ron’s multi-faceted career has been focused on assisting individuals and organizations in transition to gain clearer vision of their potential and to effectively move forward to actualize those possibilities. Upon completion of his graduate work in psychology, he founded one of the first organizations to offer wilderness rite of passage workshops and retreats for individuals and small organizations. This work has been his biggest passion and the major thread woven throughout his career. Ron now is focused on assisting people over 50 to prepare for fulfilling, purposeful, service-oriented retirement years. In 2010 he founded the Center for Conscious Eldering, based in Durango, as an umbrella for the workshop and coaching work he and colleagues are doing in this arena.
Ron spent 16 years working in the field of adult education, working with Regis University of Denver to help colleges and universities across the U.S. develop innovative degree completion programs for adult learners. In addition to staff and program development, this work involved extensive market research, corporate interviewing and focus group facilitation. He also spent 10 years working as a corporate trainer for Herrmann International, presenting to a corporate clientele three-day trainings in creative problem solving, communication, strategic thinking, personal creativity, and finding strength in diversity.
FLC Activities: Ron served as Assistant Director of the FLC Native American Center in 2007-2008. As a Professional Associate, he has been working to help the Career Services Office orchestrate the mock interviews during Career Fairs.
Volunteer/Community Service: Ron has played leadership roles in Leadership La Plata for 12 years. He serves as a summer Rail Ranger volunteer naturalist on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge RR. He is on the board of directors of the national Sage-ing Guild.
