 How to Keep Fort Lewis Affordable

  • Colorado Students — Save on tuition with the College Opportunity Fund
  • Financial Aid — 91% of students receive financial aid.
  • Complete the FAFSA — To receive pell grants, work-study, academic competitiveness grants, Perkins Loans and Stafford Loans. FLC FAFSA code is 001353.
  • Merit Scholarships — Fort Lewis offers scholarships ranging from $750 to $8,000 a year, renewable for four years.
  • Other Scholarships — Fort Lewis offers many institutional and foundation scholarships.
  • Native American Tuition Scholarship — A commitment by the state of Colorado to American Indian and Alaska Native students.
  • Tuition reductions — For qualifying out-of-state students through the New Mexico Reciprocal.

Steps for In-State Residency

You are considered a Colorado resident when, for the 12 months immediately preceding the term, you have:

  • Continuous physical presence in the state of Colorado, OR
  • Proof of intent to become a Colorado resident.
    (Students 22 years of age or younger who wish to have their residency considered independently of their parents must provide proof of emancipation.)

How to Apply

  • After you've submitted your application, submit an official copy of your high school transcripts to:

  • Submit an official copy of your ACT and/or SAT (composite of math and reading) score report to Fort Lewis, using test codes 0510 and 4310 respectively.
  • Send a $40 application fee.
  • Home school students and students receiving a GED will need to send an official copy of high school completion records or GED results to the Office of Admission.
  • Provide 2 letters of reference (recommended). Your reference letters should come from teachers, advisors or counselors. Click here for a suggested format (pdf).
  • Write a Personal Essay (recommended). Your double-spaced typed essay should be 250 to 500 words on one of the following questions:
    • College encourages the exchange of ideas and opinions. What will other students and faculty members learn from you?
    • Describe how you have made a conscious effort to lessen your impact on the environment?
    • Imagine you are ready to retire. Looking back on your life, explain how you made a difference in the world?
