Transfer Agreements with San Juan and Dine College

Many students from San Juan College and Dine College come to Fort Lewis College because of the small class size, the supportive atmosphere, the innovative teaching, and opportunity for personal interaction with faculty.  Students from San Juan College and Dine College excel at Fort Lewis College and graduate with a liberal arts education that enhances leadership and communication skills which will serve them for the rest of their lives.  We welcome students from San Juan College and Dine College!

Fort Lewis College has articulation agreements and transfer guides with San Juan College in New Mexico and Dine College in Arizona. Consult with your local community college advisor regarding your articulation agreement. The published articulation agreement and transfer guides govern transfer policies for these two-year colleges.

Any student transferring with an AA or AS degree will have fulfilled general education requirements upon completion of two upper level general education courses. You may contact the Transfer Coordinator, Soyon Bueno for more information or call (970) 382-6985.

Transferring with an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science Degree

If you are transferring to Fort Lewis College in 2005-06 with an AA or AS from San Juan College or Dine College, you will automatically be exempt from all lower division general education requirements at Fort Lewis College. Students with an AA or AS are only required to take two upper division general education courses, called
Thematic Studies II.

Transfer with an AA or AS Degree from San Juan or Dine College

If you

Complete your AA or AS degree from San Juan College or Dine College, and earn a C- or better in each course, 

Then

  • At least 60 hours of your AA or AS will transfer completely, upon admission, to a bachelor's degree at Fort Lewis College.
  • All lower division general education requirements are fulfilled, and only two upper division Thematic Studies (6-8 credits) are required.

Transferring without an AA or AS Degree

You do not need to complete your AA or AS degree to transfer to Fort Lewis College. If you have completed at least 13 semester credits of coursework at a community college with a 2.4 cumulative GPA, then you will be admitted and your courses will be evaluated on a course by course basis. If you have less than 13 semester credits, you will need to submit your high school transcripts and ACT or SAT test scores for admission evaluation. All official transcripts and test scores must be sent by the issuing school to the Office of Admission.

Fort Lewis General Education Requirements

Students transferring to Fort Lewis College must be prepared to complete the General Education Program. The General Education Program focuses on providing students with a broad exposure to the liberal arts education. The General Education program includes general studies, writing, library literacy, quantitative reasoning, physical education and thematic studies, a disciplinary based course in the four areas below.
