Student Involvement Opportunities

Student involvement is important and fun at Fort Lewis College! Student organizations
provide valuable opportunities for students to recognize, develop and strengthen their
leadership skills. We have over 50 registered student organizations and several other
leadership opportunities including Resident Assistants, Orientation Leaders and Club
Sport Organizers. The Leadership Center serves as the primary resource for information
and support for campus involvement opportunities. The center provides a wide range of
services to help students achieve success. Please contact the Leadership Center,
(970) 247-7394 for a full listing of student organizations and additional information.

Housing-Sponsored Organizations:

        ROCA (Residents On Campus Association)
ROCA members have the great job of planning programs and activities for students on
campus. Students often come to ROCA with their concerns about living on campus and
in turn ROCA works to make Fort Lewis College an even better place to be. ROCA is part
of an international organization (NACURH - National Association of College and University
Residence Halls) and ROCA members attend conferences across the United States to
promote residence hall living. ROCA teaches students leadership skills for life including
organizational and communication skills, event planning, teamwork, how to publicize
activities, time management and much more! If you are looking for a rewarding experience,
meeting new friends and working to enhance your Fort Lewis College experience,
ROCA is for you!

Students involved with ROCA are an integral part of the planning and implementation of
many social, educational, cultural and recreational programs designed specifically for Fort
Lewis College students living in the residence halls and apartments. Some of the activities
include dances, casino nights, movies, speakers, community service, leadership workshops
and much more. Popular programs from last year included Hall Olympics, Singled Out, The
FLC Price Is Right, ROCA Rocks and BINGO night. ROCA members also helped out with
campus activities including Welcome Week, CUB Late Nites and Homecoming.

        NRHH (National Residence Hall Honorary)
The NRHH is the recognition branch of NACURH (National Association of College and
University Residence Halls). NACURH, as an organization, truly believes that recognition is
a "must" in a strong residence hall community. NRHH was established to give recognition
to outstanding student leaders within the residence hall systems on their campuses, in
their regions and nationally.
As such, NRHH exists to make sure that we don't forget
to give those needed and more than deserved pats on the back.

NRHH campus chapters have a very special way of recognizing those top leaders, by
membership. The NRHH chapter membership (per school) is restricted to 1% of students
living in the residence halls. So, once inducted into NRHH you can consider yourself a
member of the top 1% of residence hall leaders.

The Fort Lewis College NRHH chapter has done many great things to promote
recognition throughout the college. The chapter looks to acknowledge those on campus
who are making a difference in the lives of the students and the college community.
Each year the Fort L
ewis College NRHH chapter works with the Student Housing and
Conference Services Department to organize the year-end recognition banquet.
NRHH also works closely with the Fort Lewis College Residents On Campus
Association (ROCA) to show appreciation to student leaders for all of their
dedication and hard work in making a residence hall a home.

        RHA (Residence Hall Association)
The Residence Hall Associations (RHA) are student governed organizations in each hall
and apartment complex which provide social and educational activities to hall residents.
Each resident is issued a $10.00 fee which is included in his/her housing charges.
Portions of these funds are then placed into accounts for each residence hall's RHA and
into the all-campus Residents On Campus Association (ROCA) account. Access to
these funds is governed by the Residence Director in each area and available to both
Resident Assistants and RHA representatives.

The Residence Hall Association is a great way to meet other residents in the halls,
voice your opinions, as well as gain skills in leadership, accounting and advertising.
Joining RHA and becoming a member of the executive board or attending RHA
meetings are a great way to start building your resume. For additional information, please
contact the Residence Director of your building.
