Heather Study is a School Psychologist who works with the San Juan BOCES out of Durango. She serves all the schools in Ignacio, as well as Escalante Middle School. Heather’s research background includes a thesis on peer-influence in high-risk adolescent behaviors and a dissertation on peer-led versus adult-led interventions in reducing sexual risk-taking in college students. Her work as a School Psychologist over the past 12 years has included assessment, consultation and intervention with students, school personnel and families related to educational and social-emotional development of youth. In addition, identification of exceptional students along with development and monitoring of individualized educational plans within the school setting constitute a major portion of her job. Particular interests include Asset building programs for students, positive-behavioral support (PBS) programs in schools and family strengthening programs within communities. Heather is originally from Pennsylvania and received her Master’s and PhD degrees in School Psychology from North Carolina State University in Raleigh. She has been a licensed School Psychologist in Colorado since 1998 and is a continuing member of the National Association of School Psychologists.
