Welcome to the Public Health Program

Why Study Public Health?

Public Health is the science of protecting and improving the health of communities through education, promotion of healthy lifestyles, and researching into disease and injury prevention. Public health practitioners teach and train people to keep themselves healthy to avoid the need for medical treatment.

You can help your community right away in Public Health. In a time when more and more people find themselves unable to afford health care and do the things needed to have healthy families, there is a growing demand for professionals trained in the field of public health.

Why Study Public Health at Fort Lewis College?

The Public Health degree program at Fort Lewis College, the first undergraduate Public Health Program in the State of Colorado, is composed of a core of courses that covers a basic public health curriculum, and additional courses that give students the ability to pursue areas of interest to them through three available degree options which include: Allied Health, Environmental Health and Psychosocial.  All degree options culminate in hands-on public health service-learning experiences that prepare students to step into real-world public health careers.
