Complete VA form 22-5490 (application for survivors’ and dependents’ educational assistance). This needs to be done as early as possible after you have been accepted by Fort Lewis College. It can take a minimum of four to six weeks for you claim to be processed.

When you receive notification that the benefits are approved, please provide the Veterans Certifying Official in the Records Office with a copy of the letter. This will provide the VA claim number which must be used for any correspondence between the Records Office and the Veterans Administration.
