Shirena Trujillo Long
|
Coordinator Shirena Trujillo Long: Shirena Trujillo Long is a native of Utah who was raised in Farmington, N.M. since 1986. Her Mexican-American father Lou Trujillo was born and raised in Northern New Mexico town of Monero near Chama, N.M., and her mother Pruda Shank Trujillo was raised in Indiana. Shirena self-identifies as Hispanic or Chicana. She graduated from Fort Lewis College in 2000 with a double major in Spanish and English-Communications. She worked as a reporter for the Durango Herald, earning a Colorado Press Association award for her work on a special bilingual series in 2001 about the effects of Mexican immigration on Durango and La Plata County. Most recently, she has managed and edited the only bilingual Hispanic newspaper in the Four Corners called El Valle Hispanic News (elvallehispanicnews.com) since September 2003, and will continue work part-time for this vital cultural publication. |

Work-Study Maintenance Manager: Randy Anguiano is a math major at Fort Lewis College and has been a work study at El Centro for four years. He was born in San Antonio, and moved to Cortez when he was six years old. For the past six years, he has lived in Durango and attended Fort Lewis College. He is Native American and Hispanic. He says he doesn’t speak Spanish, but he tries really hard and wants to learn more. |

Sam Dalgai

Work-Study student: Hello my name is Sam Dalgai, I am from Fort Defiance, Arizona. My mother’s clan is Weavers Zia. In my Native American cultural background which is Navajo or Dine, we introduce ourselves by our name and what clan we are associated with, beginning with our mother’s clan first. I spent my high school days at PineHill High School in southwest New Mexico where the town was also called PineHill. My astrological sign is Gemini or The Twins to others. This is my second year at Fort Lewis as a Elementary Education major. The unique skills or traits about me are my hobbies which include mostly arts and crafts for example, weaving, basketry, silversmith and pottery. |
Lashay Fredlund |
Work-Study student: Howdy, my name is Lashay Fredlund, and I’m from Arboles, Colorado. I graduated from Pagosa Springs High School, and believe me, it was the best day of my life. I love being outdoors either get’n stuck or making tracks. I’m currently this years 2007-2008 Red Ryder Roundup Rodeo Queen. I attend Fort Lewis College in order to acquire a Bachelors degree in Wildlife Biology with a minor in Agriculture Business. Upon graduating Fort Lewis College, I plan to attend CSU, in order to achieve a Masters degree in Wildlife Biology with and emphasis in Mountain Lion Studies.

Work-Study student: Ricky Gallegos is from Colorado Springs, Colorado. Rick graduated from Widefield High School. This year he is a freshman at Fort Lewis College and undecided in his major. Ricky enjoys playing the guitar and working at El Centro. After graduating from Fort Lewis College, he plans to attend UCCS for a master’s program. Rick plays the guitar, usually wears a hat, and longboards. |
Reanna Hoskie |
Work-Study student:Reanna Hoskie is from Denver, Colorado. Reanna graduated from Arvada Sr. High School. This year she is a sophomore at Fort Lewis College majoring in Biology. Last year she volunteered at El Centro for 120 hours as a recipient of the Daniel’s Fund scholarship. This year she is working for El Centro as a work-study student. Reanna is part of the Native American Ministries and El club del Centro. She is coordinating the Anti-Defamation League’s Campus of Difference program and is a peer facilitator for that group on campus. After graduating from Fort Lewis College, Reanna plans to attend graduate school and then medical school. Reanna would rather give help than receive help, she loves watching football, and likes to have fun ever where she goes. |

Spanish tutor, Maya Pierce: Maya is originally from Washington but graduated high school from Sedona, Ariz., and spent much of her youth in California. Her family now lives in the Four Corners and her mother is a teacher at Bloomfield, N.M. schools. She is a Spanish major and is working at El Centro to learn more about Spanish and modern Latino culture.

James Martinez is from Pagosa Springs, Colorado. James graduated from Pagosa Springs High School. This year, he is a freshman at Fort Lewis College majoring in business management. James is involved with El Centro. After graduating Fort Lewis College he plans to own his own business. James always wears a hat. |

Work Study Manager, Theresa Rodriguez Theresa Rodriguez is originally from Albuquerque, N.M. She is a junior this year and is actively involved in admissions, the Program for Academic Advancement, and a math grader for the Mathematics Deparment on campus. Rodriguez speaks fluent Spanish and is proud of her Hispano heritage. Theresa considers herself Chicana. She believe that education is key to a better life for her RAZA. |

Juanita Salway is from Tacoma, Washington. Juanita Salway graduated from Chief Lesch High School. She is a freshman at Fort Lewis College. She is undecided in her major but is gearing towards exercise science. Juanita’s hobbies are dancing, sports, and hanging out. After graduating from Fort Lewis College Juanita plans to move back to Washington and make a difference. |

Melisa was born Cottonwood Arizona and raised in Durango, Colorado. Melisa graduated from Durango High School. She is a freshman and in undecided in her major. Melisa is involved with Ballet Folklorico and starting a Ballet Folklico team at Fort Lewis College. After graduating Fort Lewis she plans to be successful. In high school Melisa was a member and president of the Prejudice Elimination Action Team. |
Danika Springob |
Work-Study student:
Danika Springob is from Loveland, Colorado. Danika graduated from Mountain View High School. She is a freshman majoring in art. Danika enjoys painting, writing, talking, laughing, swimming, and following the Lord. After graduating Fort Lewis College she plans to become an art therapist and perhaps a missionary. Danika has a freckle on the palm of her hand and has not met anyone else with a freckle on the palm of their hand. |

Hi my name is Kayla Wager I am from Pueblo West, CO. I graduated from Pueblo West High School. I am a freshman majoring in international business. I love playing tennis. I am in the business club, and the new treasure of the club del centro. I like to listen to music and hang out with my friends. I am working on becoming more outdoorsy. I like to try stay fir and active. I can be very outgoing or shy; my best friend from fourth grade came to college with me after being separated since 6th grade. We stayed best friend s and now we are roommates. My family and friends mean the worlds to me a lot of my friends have become family and I’d be lost without them. |
