Teacher Education Department

Content Tests

Students will not be placed into student teaching until they have passed the required content test for their licensure area. Students should plan to have their test passed by the student teaching application meeting. This meeting takes place on the first Friday of the first week of the term preceding the student teaching term (Immersion Term Three for Elementary Education/Early Childhood Education)

As not all students pass their test on the first try, students should give themselves enough time to re-take their test prior to the Student Teaching Application Meeting if necessary. Although most students pass their test in their firs tor second attempt, The Department suggests a three try sequence, as follows:

  • For students planning to student teach in a Winter term (Student Teaching Application Meeting  takes place on the first Friday of the preceding Fall Term)
    • First try:  April preceding the September application meeting (test administered on the FLC campus).
    • Second Try: Summer (June or July) preceding the September application meeting (test administered on the FLC campus).
    • Third Try: September of the application meeting (test not administered on the FLC campus). Students should avoid being in this situation as they cannot be placed into student teaching unless their test is passed by this September testing date.
  • For students planning to student teach in a Fall term (Student Teaching Application Meeting  takes place on the first Friday of the preceding Winter Term)
    • First try:  Summer (June or July) preceding the January application meeting (test administered on the FLC campus).
    • Second Try: November preceding the January application meeting (test administered on the FLC campus).
    • Third Try: January of the application meeting (test not administered on the FLC campus). Students should avoid being in this situation as they cannot be placed into student teaching unless their test is passed by the September or March testing dates.

Students register for their test on-line and can find study guides and additional information about the tests by linking directly to the PRAXIS and PLACEweb sites. Information on test dates are updated at the beginning of each Fall Term on the bulletin board outside EBH 242.
