VoFLC: Justin McBrayer

I applied to sixty-something jobs out of graduate school, and Fort Lewis was my number one choice. I was a first-generation college student myself, and I was excited about opening doors for other first-gen students.

When we lived in Animas Hall, one evening, one of our favorite residents showed up for dessert night. He was distressed and said that he had decided to drop out of college. I said “Grab your skis” because I knew that he was a big cross-country skier. We hiked up the road and jumped the fence at Hillcrest. We skied in the moonlight and talked about his career and life goals and how college fit into all that. He ended up staying at FLC and graduating with honors.

My name is Justin McBrayer, and I am a professor of Philosophy and associate dean at Fort Lewis College.
