The STEM3 Student Success Center is a Student Support Service Program that provides services, such as free tutoring, for eligible participants. Our program is designed to assist first-generation, low-income students and/or students with disabilities successfully complete their STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) bachelor’s degree. We are looking for individuals who are committed to helping their peers and who enjoy working as a team dedicated to student achievement. We offer tutoring Monday – Friday 8 am – 8 pm and Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm.

Supplemental Instruction (SI)

  • Academic assistance program that utilizes peer-assisted study sessions
  • SI Leader is a student who has previously done well (≥B+) in the course tutored
  • SI study sessions are regularly scheduled review sessions
  • Great addition to your CV/Resume and graduate school application!!!

SI Leader Responsibilities Include:   

  • Attending all BIO 233 lectures, taking notes and acting as a model student;
  • Preparing BIO 233 lecture and study sessions;
  • Facilitating BIO 233 study sessions for STEM3 participants;
  • Actively recruiting STEM3 participants; and
  • Completing regular clerical and tutor duties.

Requirements:

  • Tutors must be at least a sophomore;
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.75; and
  • A “B+” or above in BIO 233.

All tutors will be required to attend a 5 hour general tutor training. Five additional hours of training plus 25 hours of tutoring are required to be Level-one CRLA (College Reading and Learning Association) certified. Additional training specific to SI will also be required. Pay begins at $10/hr.
