Tutors must be at least a sophomore, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75, and must also have a B or above in the class the student wants to tutor.
CRLA Certification (College Reading and Learning Association): This is a national certification recognized by professional educators. Certification means the recipient has completed the specified number of training hours in required areas. The level of certification attained will determine your hourly pay as a tutor.
All tutors will be required to attend a five hour general tutor training. Five additional hours of training plus 25 hours of tutoring are required to be Level-one CRLA certified. The CRLA Level II certification requires tutors to attend a one credit hour course as well as an additional 25 hours of tutoring. The Tutor Orientation will give you basic information about the program for which you will be tutoring and the students they serve. You will receive hands-on training on how to enhance student learning abilities and their knowledge of the subject matter. We will also give you the opportunity to complete self-analysis exercises that will help you better understand how you interact with others and how to identify the specific needs of the students you will be working with.
