Teacher Education Department
In this program, the Music and Teacher Education Departments will jointly build your proficiency in musical education skills. These include conducting choir and band, working in elementary music programs, and using appropriate teaching methods in diverse settings. You will get hands-on experience applying these skills during a full semester student teaching in elementary and secondary schools. This major meets the requirements for getting a Colorado K-12 Music License.
Your first step will be to meet with an Admission Counselor. Once accepted as a freshman, talk to a Music Department advisor as soon as you can. You must also apply for admission to the Music Department, which will include a short audition. Review the course catalog and four year map so you can plan to take the right courses at the right time.
You must meet the Music Department’s requirements for the first two years, then apply for admission to the Teacher Education Department.

When you have been accepted to FLC, you will be assigned a faculty advisor in your first semester. Contact both the Music and the Teacher Education Departments to set up a meeting. Review the course catalog so you can plan to take the right courses at the right time.
