Every ten years, Fort Lewis College is reviewed by the Higher learning Commission for reaffirmation of its accreditation. We are currently preparing for reaffirmation of accreditation in 2026.
Institutional accreditation is the voluntary submission by a college or university to the standards of quality and validity set by the non-governmental agency that accredits degree-granting institutions of higher education in our geographic region: the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).
The HLC describes institutional accreditation on its website as evaluation of the “institution as a whole".
Besides assessing formal educational activities, institutional accreditation evaluates such things as governance and administration, financial stability, admissions and student services, institutional resources, student learning, institutional effectiveness, and relationships with internal and external constituencies.
