Your contributions help make Fort Lewis College a dynamic and inclusive institution. Together, we can make a meaningful impact—let’s make great things happen!
Fort Lewis College’s history is deeply connected to the people and landscapes of Southwest Colorado. From a military outpost to an Indian boarding school, a rural high school to a public liberal arts college, FLC has evolved alongside the region for over a century. Today, it stands as a hub for experiential learning, ideas, and opportunities.
Fort Lewis College provides exceptional educational opportunities to all students. Our diverse student body of 3,300 comes from all 50 states, 12 countries, and 185 Native American tribes and Alaska Native Villages. Nearly 60% of our students identify as students of color, and we are one of two non-tribal colleges in the country offering a tuition waiver to Native American students. Faculty and staff play a crucial role in cultivating FLC’s vibrant and inclusive community.
In 2024, FLC launched a strategic planning process to redefine its impact and guide the future of higher education. The plan was shaped by students, faculty, and staff and focuses on five key priorities:
Fort Lewis College is committed to fostering learning that helps students reach their full potential and become engaged citizens. This goal is best achieved in a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and effective performance among administrative professional personnel. This handbook serves as a guide to workplace policies, procedures, and expectations, including conduct standards and employee benefits.
This handbook outlines Fort Lewis College’s policies and procedures for administrative (non-faculty) professional employees whose positions are excluded from the State of Colorado classified system. While many policies apply to all employees, classified employees should refer to the State of Colorado Classified Employee Handbook, and faculty should follow the Faculty Handbook for guidance.
Fort Lewis College and the Board of Trustees reserve the right to modify, amend, or discontinue any policies or procedures stated in this handbook at their discretion. The College will strive to notify employees of changes when possible. In cases where a policy conflicts with federal or state law or the Board of Trustees Policy Manual, the applicable law or Board policy will take precedence.
This handbook does not create an employment contract, express or implied, nor does it guarantee specific terms or conditions of employment. It supersedes all previous versions of the Administrative Professional’s Handbook.
