Welcome to Fort Lewis College

You probably have a lot of questions so we want to provide you with the tools necessary to make informed decisions. We encourage you to take advantage of these resources so you can focus on making an impact in your new position.

New hire resources

Health, Dental, Life and Disability Insurance Information

At your Employee Intake Meeting, a representative of Human Resources will explain the benefits package, guide you through the benefits enrollment procedures, and answer any questions you may have.

To help prepare for that meeting, you may want to review the various benefit packages offered by the college. Health, dental and life insurance becomes effective on your first day of employment so you will be asked during your Employee Intake Meeting to make benefit selections.

  • Benefits for Classified staff at Fort Lewis are developed and regulated by the State of Colorado. The benefit package includes health, dental and disability programs. For a look at all the benefits available to Classified staff and for enrollment information and provider directories, please visit the State of Colorado Benefits website.
  • Faculty and Administrative Professional (Exempt) staff have a separate benefits package developed and regulated by Fort Lewis College, in part as a member of the Colorado Higher Education Insurance and Benefits Alliance (CHEIBA).

Retirement Plans

Fort Lewis College does not make contributions to Social Security. For some employees, important decisions regarding your retirement plan will need to be communicated to HR within your first couple of days of employment. Participation in one of the listed retirement plans is required.

  • Faculty or Administrative Professional (Exempt) staff are encouraged to take some time to review these retirement plan options by visiting TIAA, AIG/Cornerstone, or PERA*.

*Faculty and Administrative Professional (Exempt) staff can participate in PERA (if the employee is currently active in PERA or if they have been active in PERA in the past).

We also have a number of optional tax deferred annuity plans available.

Campus Groups and Organizations:

2SLGBTQIA+ Staff/Faculty Group

Our 2SLGBTQIA+ Faculty/Staff group is filled with employees who identify as part of the broader queer community. We meet both formally and informally during the academic year and summer. Our goals within this group are to create a supportive environment, meet new members of the community, and bring change to campus through advocacy, policy change, and harm reduction.

For more information, please contact Shelby Polkinghorn, sapolkinghorn@fortlewis.edu

Faculty/Staff of Color Group

Our Faculty/Staff of Color group, comprised of Fort Lewis College employees who self-identify as people of color, meets on a regular basis during the academic year and in the summer. Our mission is to build solidarity within our working community and our main goals are to increase retention of faculty and staff of color and strengthen relationships between our members and students of color at FLC.
